Alright guys i am looking to buy a 17" bayliner with a 120hp Force Outboard. The owner said it has about 200 hours on it and i am wondering is the force outboard reliable? Some members here told me to stay away from anything with L-drive or with the word force on it?

I have a 1997 Bayliner 17'er with the 120 Force. The Motors of the mid 90's and later were made ( from what I was told) by Mercury Marine. Mine even says Mercury Marine on it. It runs like a champ, pulls hard, and given a little time hitts close to 48 mph 50lbs. from max weight. :)

does anyone know why an alarm sounds on a 120 hp force , the boat continues to operate normally, then the alarm turns off in about a minute .

Most likely an overheat alarm. Could be in need of an impeller, or thermostat. Could be a blockage, or a head gasket problem.
