i bought a 1995 yamaha 250 and had a few questions about wiring..here are the questions..

1. where does the battery + and - wires bolt on too?

2. in the black box on the right side of engine theres a red wire with white stripe its about 1/4 inch or so thick, its been cut.. where does that go?

3. trim wires blue/green/black, where does that connect? or is it just blue/green?

i dont know much about this so any pictures and or advice will be great!!thanks

Re: 1995 250hp wiring need help

without some good digital pics of both sides of the power head, all I can ay is swing by a dealership and look in the 1995 rigging guide.
you expect us out of memory to remember a simple thing that was 13 years ago?
I mean I was an FC on a gray boat back then :)

Re: 1995 250hp wiring need help

heres a stock photo i found on the internet much clearer then my cam would be..i can see where the power hookup is now...
here are the colored arrows to wires im stuck on...hope this can help!!

(yellow arrow) assuming this is the tnt wire coming from the tnt unit?mine has a blue a green and a black wire, where do they go cant seem to see it well on here.

(red arrow) where does this dual red wire go to? mine was cut off at the black section..

(blue arrow) theres a single blue wire with yellow stripe coming out of the harness the end was cut where does it go?

(purple arrow) this tube was disconnected on the carb side the side thats on the manifold is still connected...i can see it going between the carbs but where does it go?

Re: 1995 250hp wiring need help

the red leads look like they come from the fuse box (grey box) one lead should connect to the rectifer, the other may connect to CDI or the TnT relay. The TnT relay is just under the grey box, the wires with yellow pointer connects on this relay. The rectifer should be located near the starter relay located just under the TnT relay which has that thick black wire with blue strip.

the red leads are connected together at the black end there not separated.im wondering if the red wire goes to accessory battery?

Re: 1995 250hp wiring need help

both sets come from the rectifier, through the fuse from there one set goes to the positive post on the starter solinoid the other goes to a house battery.
all V6 yamahas from at least 95 have a rectifier with a builtin isolator. if the isolator leads arnt used they are taped off.

wow yall got me all confused!! the term house battery means a second battery?or accessory batt? now whats confuseing me is the red wire is 2 wires that connect to 1 black wire just like in the pic but mine has been cut about an inch past the black, one wire.in this pic it looks like it exits the engine at the same place as the harness and throttle cables..

The red lead hooks onto the 2nd battery. the blue wire with yellow strip runs from cdi to the shift cutoff switch, mounted on bracket on the lower starboard side of the powerhead.

Re: 1995 250hp wiring need help

Al, making good progress - the green wire bolts onto tnt relay pole next to the red lead; the green lead from tnt motor bolts onto relay pole opp. (ontop as you look at your photo) red; the black connects to pole next to green; that other black wire (thin) may come from thermoswitch and that should plug into a connector with 3 wires attached to and exiting the relay (green, blue and black). the Gr and Blue from relay goes to trailer switch and a ten pin connector. Hope this works for you. Happy Easter boating
