Can someone tell me what is the maximum operating RPM on a 1994 Johnson Faststrike 150 hp? any prop recomendation for this motor on a 18' bass boat? Currently running 4 blade 23" stainless steel.
Depending on which model you have the rev limiter is at either 6200 or 6700. As for the prop it's kinda hard to make a blanket statement without knowing more. There are lots of hull designs in 18' bass boats.
I have a 19' flats boat with a 150 and turn a 14 3/4 x 23 4 blade Turbo. My youngest son has a 18' flats boat with a 60* 150 and turns a 14 1/4 x 19 3 blade Turbo. I had a 18' Mirage with a looper V6 that turned a 29 over 8500.
It is a ranger 372V, 1995 model. I do not know how much it weighs, but I guess about 1400 lb based on the way it tows on the truck. It jumps out on plane really fast and tops out at 55 mph when I am alone and do not have a full tank. It feels like I should be getting less hole shot and more top end speed. How do I go about finding the right prop for my application to maximize performance?
That kinda limits you on what props we have to choose from. The higher technology props like a Turbo will yield the most benifit but without a jackplate I doubt you'll get the motor high enough to take full advantage of the technology you paid for.
Does it require a lot of positive (up) trim to carry the bow?
Not sure, but I would say it probably does require a lot of trim to carry the bow. I can trim the motor up until the prop blows out and not porpus at speeds above 35 mph. The current prop is a Shooter 23" pitch 4 blade stainless steel. I once owned a heavier Stratos with a 150 hp. That boat was slow to plain but ran top end at 55+. I now have a smaller, lighter boat with the same hp and get the same top end speed. This leads me to believe that I am not getting the maximum performance and efficency. Would a jackplate provide a performance return? Fixed or hydraulic? 10" set back?
You need the following:
Water pressure guage!! #1+++
6 inch jackplate( make sure steering cables are long enough for this)
Motor in second hole on plate
Gearcase 1" below bottom of both
Existing prop worked with double cup or a M24 Yamaha prop rehubed for a OMC( Yammy make a A+++ prop!!! Excellent hole shot and lift!!! )
