I just got home and found the 72 Johnson 9.5 (9R72M) that I won on ebay about a week ago sitting on my door step. It was sitting upside down. And who knows what it went threw with UPS. It was packed very well and everything seems to be in good shape. My question is, Because it was upside down. Is there anything I should do before starting? Thanks

As long as it was not just taken out of the water and there was still water in the pump and system then upside down should not be an issue.

Do you know when it was last run? Does it turn over freely? I'd do a compression check first for a baseline.

If it really has not be run in awhile then search for 'Awakening an Outboard' and follow the thread.

If UPS had it the foot is probably drained. Don't run it without oil in there.

It was last run last summer. I was already going to put in new gear oil in the lower end. I want to see what comes out.
Do you think the floas in the carb will be affected from being upside down?

Don't think so, Pat.
