? Minn Kota brand battery warranty . . .

My Daughter bought two Minn Kota brand batteries at Dicks for trolling when she bought a canoe and a Minn Kota trolling motor from them last year.

One of them won't hold a charge anymore for more than 20 minutes.

A call to Dicks and they say she needs to talk with Minn Kota.

Anyone know if Minn Kota has a warranty on their deep cycle batteries?

I told her she should have bought a diehard or one from Walmart since at least they warranty them and it's easy to get them replaced if they fail. But I don't know if deep cycles have warranties like car batteries do?

How would Minn Kota warranty them anyway. Do they said you a partial credit since the stores don't have anything to do with them after the sale?

I'm not shipping a 40 lb battery back! I don't think a shipper would ship it anyway.

Check Minn kota's web site and see if there is an authorized service center near you.

Thx for your response but I don't even see batteries mentioned on Minn Kotas site anymore. I went there before I posted here.

I'll check for authorized service centers!

Great suggestion. They had an authorized service center locator and one is about 15 min away. I'll call them on Monday to see what type of adjustment they will do for me if any.

You would think the Bozo's at Dicks could have told us that when we called them this AM.

Dicks still carries them. I priced them just a week or so ago. They are waaayyy over priced. Chances are the battery failed because it was not recharged immediately after each use. That will kill a battery very quickly.

Thx. She actually has 3 of them. Only two don't hold charges like they should. She has two chargers and hooks them up at the end of the day. She takes two batteries with her so she doesn't drain one down beyond about 80%.

Be interesting to see what they will do for her.

Update: the authorized Minn Kota service center is a boat place, so its closed currently.

She called Minn Kota and they said to call Trojan who made the batteries. Trojan said they don't make batteries for Minn Kota anymore.

They said Dicks covers them for 1 year. Trojan said to go back to Minn Kota.

To be continued . . .

All of the above is a good reason to only buy your batteries from Walmart in my opinion.

At least this seals the deal for me never to buy another Minn Kota product. Hello Motor Guide!

Shame Brunswick takes over a great company like Minn Kota and then offers p*ss poor customer service.

Good news Trojan told her that they are going to order her two new batteries and with upgraded models too.

The also told her that ****'s sold her dual purpose batteries even though she thought she was buying deep cycle models.

She bought the canoe and the batteries along with the Minn Kota 30 lb electric troller. Not much need for a dual purpose model in a canoe

Nice place that ****'s . . . why would they sell her a dual purpose battery?

And then to boot . . . not back it up when both failed!

Minn Kota customer support did say to call them back if Trojan doesn't do anything for her.
They said "oh we don't use Trojan for our batteries anymore". . . so I said to ask Minn Kota "And how is this my problem"? :D

Gotta love it! Have your own branded batteries made by another company who is producing a bad run of batteries and then tell customers who bought those defective batteries "oh we don't use that company to make our batteries anymore"!

that's the problem with Dicks, and Gander Mountain. they are retail stores , the sales staff don't know what they are doing. they hire who ever they can get thru the door, give them 30 minutes of training.

i have also had trouble with Trojan Batteries in the last year and 1/2.

Update: So Trojan ordered two batteries for her. I asked her to ask them to activate only one of them because she will have 3 all together and only needs two to alternate.

They said they come all come activated already.

Is this true?

I would think as soon as one puts acid into the battery the shelf life and the batteries plates start to deteriorate.

I was hoping to store one of the new batteries until she needs it.

Its been a very long time since I bought a dry battery. The last one was a lawn tractor battery. I don't know but would guess its an EPA thing.

Good point on the EPA thing. They probably don't want boxes of partial acid remains being tossed out.

That acid inside the plastic bag is going to be around forever in a landfill or worse yet tossed into the woods somewhere.

****'S just opened their 1st store in Oregon. Been wanting to go and check it out. Thanks for the buyer beware. Maybe I will stay with the older, proven sports store with good customer service.
I to had a early Trojan battery die (less then 1 year old), but didn't have a problem with the exchange.
