What will happen if you run a longshaft motor (20") on a short transom(15") will it not plane or plane right?

Thanks Fuzzey

Re: Long and short shaft

It will have a lot more drag, Fuzzey, and it will be harder to maneuver and more likely to hit bottom or other obstructions. Whether it will plane depends on factors we don't know.

If you absolutely have no choice, think about a jack plate, even a fixed jack plate, to raise it to proper rigging height.

Re: Long and short shaft

ok thanks im buying used so long and short shaft is not something I have to choose from. I like the idea of a homemade jack plate because they retail for a lot. Did you bend the metal yourself or find something the right shape? more details would be appreicated.

Thanks Fuzzey

Re: Long and short shaft

that plate was designed for the 250Lb motor, 3/16 aluminum, i had bent, material and labor for metal $50. if using a small motor 10 and under, you can use 4 pieces of aluminum angle, use 2 pieces each side to make the Z shape. some extra holes drilled in it can be adjustable.
