Can anyone tell me if the tiller handle and tiller support bracket for an Evinrude light twin 3HP will fit on my Sea King? I'm trying to restore my fathers old Sea King unfornately when he broke the old handle many years ago he removed the bracket and replaced with a flat peice of iron mounted on the outside of the lower skirt. Functional but not very attractive. My father can't remember what he did with the old equipement either. I've tried to locate a replacement from a outboard salvage place here in MN but they could not locate a Gale motor that still had the handle attached. He has lots of handles that have been removed but he's not exactly sure they will work for me. Basically I'm trying to save myself the trouble of having to drive 100+ miles to try some handles on. My motor has a threaded stud coming off the port side of the motor about an inch long probably 5/16" or 3/8" in diameter. To me it looks like the support bracket would have to have a slight bend in it to clear the notch that's in the skirt then the actual hande would bolt onto the bracket. If in anyone knows if the Evinrude handle will work or if they would be willing to post an up close picture of what their handle looks like on their Gale to provide enough detail to ID the correct handle I sure would be thankful.

If your model number begins with "GG" it is a Gale made engine, MN fisherman. Though they share a lot of parts with JohnnyRudes of the period, that may not include the tiller handle.

I suggest that you go to www.tcoutboard.com with your SK model number. I would bet they have a used SK handle.

The handle is very simple you could fashion one from some flat stock and some tubing like electrical conduit. I have a factory drawing of the tiller I can attampt to photograph and email to you.(no scanner)I've had good luck doing this.If the boss where it mounts is damaged you may have a problem. If you pm me in the personal messages at the top of the page your email i can send it.

F R and Steelspike you guys were correct! The only reason I didn't notice that there should have been two threaded studs is because one of them (the front one) is broken off. I might still have some options here though, there still might be enough aluminum to tap some threads a half inch or so deep for a bolt. I'll likely have to shim up a bit to line up with the back stud. I'm also going to talk to my dad since I've never known him to throw much of anything away and theres a chance he might still have the handle buried in the garage somewhere. If I could find the old handle do you guys know of a product that would bond to the cast aluminum? Steelspike I've sent you my email address and I appreciate your help.

F R, I got the ignition parts, carb float and leather needle packing last night. After a few hours I got everything installed and put back together and when I was finished I had spark that would jump close to a 1/2" gap! It was getting pretty late so I didn't tank test last night but I'm pretty confident I'll have this thing running for the first time in 25+ years tonight. Thank you again for taking the time to help me with this project.

Mine was busted too and somebody had fixed it with JB Weld. It broke too. I finally replaced the housing.
