I just purchased a boat with a 502 500hp merc and a bravo 1 outdrive. The prop on it is a vensura 21p 4 blade ss:confused:. I just did a search and saw that it is the wrong prop for the outdrive. What will this do to the boat? Will this hurt performance? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: bravo prop question for a newbee

I am not certain that there is such a thing as a particularly "wrong" prop for a drive. If it physically fits and isn't hitting the housing of the drive, it can be on there.
If that is truly the prop that the previous owner used on the boat, it's probably on there so he could get the boat on plane and attain a nice cruise at a reasonable rpm.
You are going to have to provide us with a lot more information if you want anything more than generalities. Such as type of boat, RPMs that it turns at Wide Open Throttle, RPMs or GPS speed at certain RPMs, etc.
Welcome aboard. You provide some of the fellas on here with enough info and they'll give you lots of ideas for a myriad of props to try, if the current one doesn't do exactly what you want it to do.

The boat is a chaparral villain 24ft. at wot 4800-5200 rpm. When I bought the boat the previous owner stated he had just put a new prop on, so i dont think he tryed it out. In my opinion I think someone stold the prop that was on there and he purchased what was available fast so he could sell. The boat struggles to hit 47mph on gps. and is a little sluggish out of the hole for that type of horsepower. My 21ft seaswirl with a johnson 150 ob will leave this boat sitting???

Ayuh,....

It's hard to Believe,...
But it sounds like your motor is severely Overpropped,......
Or,.....
More Likely,..... It's seriously Down on it's Horsepower potential....

That hull, with 500hp, should quite literally Jump out of the water with a 21" prop.....

the motor is healthy, i just replaced the carb thinking that was it, but it wasnt, that what made me look at the prop. I had the motor checked out and got a clean bill of health.
