I am not certain that there is such a thing as a particularly "wrong" prop for a drive. If it physically fits and isn't hitting the housing of the drive, it can be on there.
If that is truly the prop that the previous owner used on the boat, it's probably on there so he could get the boat on plane and attain a nice cruise at a reasonable rpm.
You are going to have to provide us with a lot more information if you want anything more than generalities. Such as type of boat, RPMs that it turns at Wide Open Throttle, RPMs or GPS speed at certain RPMs, etc.
Welcome aboard. You provide some of the fellas on here with enough info and they'll give you lots of ideas for a myriad of props to try, if the current one doesn't do exactly what you want it to do.
