Old rod

My Dad gave me a rod he got about 45 years ago and Ive never seen any like it. Its made of wood and has like 6 sides to it. Its made for salt water. Wonder how I can find out what I have and it value for insurance reasons.

Without seeing it on a picture,I would say that it is a "split cane".There must be some old timer with a tackle store around where you live.they would be a good source of info.Failing that,shoot an email to the Infisherman magazine,they will help you.

There are still quite a few around. You see them in second hands shops now and then.

Unless it was made by a famous rod maker it's worth a whole lot more for its sentimental value than it's market value.

Some of the better old salt cane rods had eyes on both sides. I have an old Leonard salt rod that the eyes are lined with marble. Thompson, eddings, and a few other s were top makers of cane rods; plus every town on the shore up to the 40's had a rod builder. I'd research the rod if yuou could; ya never know.
