I need to replace the starter from my 66 Meteor Eleltromatic. I feel like I've looked everywhere new and used. The model I have is 100hp and I'm wondering if Johnson/Evinrude used the same starter in any of their other motors.

I agree with HT ... its not done until an expert tells you that it isn't rebuildable. I had the starters in both of my 1958 Evinrude Bigtwins rebuilt by a guy that my OMC dealer recommended. The work cost me about $100 per unit but they work was first class and they are great!

The gear reduction starter was used on all Johnson, Evinrude, and Gale V-4 motors from 1958-68. As time went by, they kept making them longer and more powerful, but any of them should bolt in there. I really don't know if a '58, for instance, will have enough oomph to crank the 100, can't say I've ever tried it.

Well to be honest with you guys, the starter is actually gone. It was either stolen or taken out by the previous owner.

I also need the starter for a 1966 Johnson 100 HP Golden Meteor. Did you have any luck? If so where?
