While attempting to remove the core plugs from my carb, I accidentally went too deep with my punch and punched a hole through the base. Everything still move freely though. Is this carb trash now? If used, what effects will this have or should I expect to see from this? Geeez, I finally get my long awaited trim cylinder leaks repaired and now this!!! It never fails. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have NO luck at all!!!.............. :-(

P.S....... Please take a look at my fuel pump related thread from earlier today, if time permits. I could really use some help on the re-assembly. Thanks guys............. ALAN

You punched that big hole in the middle? Uh, it looks toast to me. There's no way it will work properly, hate to tell you. Others are sure to comment also. Too bad.

yeah......I punched that big hole in the middle. I figured the idle would be the only affected area. Thought maybe it might run rich is all. Surely I'm not the only one to have done this....... :-( ........ What gives?

You're probably not the only one to do it, but you might be the first to fess up to it!!!

Maybe you could try to put a tiny bit of JB weld in there on the end of a pencil or something like that to seal it? I've never tried though. Maybe others have a better idea.

I would say to forget the attempts to repair it ... eventually you are going to replace this carb anyway. Chalk it up to a lesson learned, buy another carb and move on.

I would put a spot of JB weld on it and run it til it doesn't run anymore.

I vote to replace....it will always be an issue in the back of your mind when out there trying to enjoy a day on the water....

It will eventually be replaced no doubt. But, can I use it temporarily until a replacement can be located and purchased? I was Just wandering what to expect. Surely I'm not the only one here to have done this and tried running with it. If so, I guess I'll be the first to try it and post the results of the outcome. I don't foresee any detrimental impact of running a carb too rich at idle. Maybe a fouled plug or two would be the worst case cenario.........right?

if it were me, and I were gonna run it in the meantime, I'd clean it with acetone, then plug the new hole with something. Is JB weld impervious to fuel? I know there is some stuff in a tube called "seals all" that I've heard people use to seal punctured gas tanks. That's probably what I'd use (?) or depending on the size of the hole, you could either screw in a small sheet metal screw, or tap it and use a small machine screw. If I were doing either, I'd add either some "seals all" or locktite to the threads.

I like the screw idea as if the jb weld got sucked into the reeds or worse, the pistons, that'd be real bad and you could toast your engine. The screw would never go through.

What size carb is that ?? 1-5/16 or 1-3/8. I got a lot of these laying in a box if you need one.

This is the route I will most likely persue. I'm thinking of a very small stainless steel sheet metal screw, about the size of one that fits the ear piece on your sunglasses, perhaps with a small lock washer to add a little security to the deal and not use any type of locktite. I don't think it would do any good as the fuel would eat it up. I will file away the tag end of the screw that protrudes through the carb body so as to not interfere with the movement of the butterfly. I'll then proceed with the carb cleaning and rebuild. Wish me luck. I can sure as h**l use it right now.....LOL

I think Faztbullet gets the "iboater of the month" award. I'm also glad to see this happening because I believe that the JB Weld option was a bad one for the reasons that Samo Ott mentioned. JB is good stuff for some things but it does break up after awhile and having little bits of epoxy floating around in your carb would not be a good thing!

BTW, Faztbullet, if you happen to have a spare Yamaha 2-stroke 90hp in running condition hanging around, I'd be glad to send you my address too!
