anyone tell me if a newbie can do a lower unit reseal... of my 1972 johnson 50hp...? had the white coffee color in the last drain... i am gonna change the seals on the drain plug and vent plug and cheeck, but i am worried that there is a more significant leak...

There are plenty of people on the site that will be glad to help if you get stuck. Get a full set of seals and a pump impeller (if it has not been replaced in the last 3/4 years) and go for it. It's realy not that hard. You will be glad you did.

had it in the shop when i bought it last year....they put a new impeller in... i am going to start with the vent and drain seals...so anything more is not necessarily incredibly challenging for a newbie? tx for your comments

A factory OEM manual will make it MUCH easier.

If you do not already have one, Check ebay or www.outboardbooks.com for a factory reprint.
