Mercruiser 488??

Looking at a used boat on craigslist. Said to have a mercruiser 488. Looking at the accompanying pics it is a black motor and it does say 488 on the valve cover. The outdrive is white/gray and is too obscure to really get a look at the shape.

Does anyone know what this is? Says the boat is an '84 model. and 180HP.

Run Away! Run Away. That is the same as a 470. Just with a little more horsepower. And obsolete engine that has issues. Run Away Run Away!

I had a suspicion that it may be. Was having no luck in finding info about it. Thanks, I believe I will pass.

Well, sometimes it just has to be stated in obviously over-the-top terms! Glad you liked it. (Of course I am ripping off Monty Python!)
