That would be the one that allows the motor to reach the proper rpm so the motor will live a long and healthy life.

motors do not come with a "standard" prop. take the prop off and look in the hub area of the prop, maybe something there.

Re: 1978 Evinrude 115hp

It's not a "stupid" answer. It's the only answer with the available info. A prop for a 115 on a 15' Allison is going to be very different than a prop for a 115 on a 22' Dusky. If we knew the make & type of hull we could at least have a starting point. And while you might not care about speed you do care about "other stuff" like top rpm.

Don't assume the prop on the boat is the correct one either. It might be, might not be. The important thing is to have fun getting the boat fixed up. Then start testing.

Well i asked a question because i dont know and I get a stupid answer.

You got the BEST answer to your question from the TOP expert on this forum. The question was not stupid.....your response was.
The prop that puts that crossflow at 5800RPM at wide open throttle with a normal load is the correct prop, and as stated above, there is no such thing as a "Standard prop"....the engines don't come with props because they don't have a blanket coverage prop available yet that will provide 5800 on a pontoon AND a Bassboat.
If I were Dhadley, as a pro Racer, engine guru and top-notch advisor for a couple of brands of outboards, I don't think I would answer anymore of your questions if I seen them posted.

Re: 1978 Evinrude 115hp

But see? Now we know more about the project. Lol!

Anyway, I'd guess that with a 115 on that boat a 19 would be a good all around prop to start with. We're assuming no jackplate and that we won't be adding too much weight during the rebuild.

We might be able to swing a 21 with a light load and the motor up a little. With a consertive set up (AV plate even w/keel) and a couple of guys with normal fishing stuff (cooler of beer) a 19, even in aluminum, would be a good starting point.

Then the fun part starts - testing. Hey, I'm hoping it's a rocket. I know where we can get some 23" 4 blade props real cheap.

No biggie. At some point in time all of us didn't know that.

Keep us informed how the project is coming. That should be a fun rig once it's done. Don't skimp on the steering. This thing may be faster than you think.
