This might be controversial, but I could not find anything relating to this topic. I have just purchased a 2001 Donzi 32 with 2001 225hp opti's with 1000 hrs. The motors actually run okay ..not that smooth but, it goes fairly strong (90 -107psi). However, I plan to use this boat for longer distance trips and want to avoid as many break downs as possible. The wife hates it when things break too (can you relate...?). So, I am strongly considering getting new powerheads on both motors and go over the rest lower units/fuel etc. to minimize surprises. So, the QUESTION is can anyone recommend a rebuilder (near Miami/Ft. laud)? I have heard good things about Recovery Performance http://www.powerheadsusa.com/ and not so good things about http://1outboard.com/.

ANY and all information is extremely welcome.

Ahoy, reality check.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I really doubt that replacing the powerheads on those 1000-hour Optis would do anything to increase reliability, RC.

Failures are much more likely to occur in the fuel, ignition or computer systems than the mechanicals.

Save your bux and have a first rate Mercspert go over them.

Welcome to the forum!!:):)
I totally agree with JB. Not to many outboards break down and leave one stranded because of power head issues, they are usually as stated electrical, fuel, or cooling issues. You will not make the engines more dependable by rebuilding or replacing the power heads. If compresson and a leak down test show things are good, then you would be wasting money.

Thanks boys for the advice!!
In further thought I agree. Time will tell and I hope you are right. I guess if the engines made a 1000hrs. and maintains good compression the previous owner must have done the maintenance.
Thanks again and appreciate your thoughts.
