New Carb on Older Engine?

I'm considering putting a replacement carb on my mercruiser 140, to avoid the hassle of the rebuild.

Do you know if a newer 2003-2004 MerCarb will fit on a much older (1977) Mercruiser?

I had a 1984 140 and i had the carb completly rebuilt for $150.00 professionaly by boat mechanic. It ran perfect with no problems for the 4 years i had it. I know that a new carb will cost more than that.

Welcome to the forum deanjoshua!!
Even new carbs may need to be adjusted and tuned, so it may not be a bolt on and go.

a new mercarb will fit and replace and old rochester or zenith.... you just need to get the tag off the old carb and get the correct mercarb.
Most of them physically fit... it more that you want to get the carb with the correct jetting off the shelf.

You can exchange your carb for a rebuilt or send yours in to be rebuilt for about 150.They flow test them on a machine after the rebuild.That way the only adjustment it may need is the idle mixture screw.

I have a buddy who's going to give me his but live across the country, so I can't physically see it. I think I'll try it but check the jetting first.

If you can get a competent rebuild for $150 - great. But around here, they charge 3 times that for a rebuild and that nearly meets and sometimes exceeds most new prices. Your decision should be based on what you can get it rebuilt for. If you were in Charleston you'd be getting a new one...(no matter which way you go )

how old is your 140.... not all carbs can be rebuilt. if your talking a 30 year old carb your best off replacing it.

The place i gave the link to is a lifetime warranty. I bought one for my last boat with a 4.3 and it ran great.Did not have to adjust anything.It was 150 with free shipping and a free label to send the core back.Good people to deal with.
