I have a confession to make ...... its terrible and I feel so dirty! I went .... possibly in a state of total madness .... and bought .... dare I say it .... a Chrysler! Yup, there it is. I said it. A 1974 10 hp! I have, however, prayed with my pastor over my "serious sin" and held a news conference with my wife dutifully at my side! Actually, I'm not married, she was an escort posing as my wife but we didn't do anything afterwards - I swear!

Please don't abandon me because it is in very good shape and the guy only wanted fifty bucks for it! I admit, the smell of premix in the morning got to me and I had to do it.

All of that nonsense said, if any of the wonderful "motorheads" in here know anything about Chrysler outboards, please see my post in the Chrysler/Force section.

Thanks,

Jay Merrill

Re: Confession

I had a Chrysler given to me this spring. Had a cracked lu had it welded and put it back together with new seals and sold it back to the guy who gave it to me for what I had in parts. He was glad to get it. I do hope it does not tarnish my reputation.

Re: Confession

Roscoe is on the Chrysler forum. I think he sleeps with his motors because he really knows them well.

Re: Confession

Hey Jay,
How about a pic of this Chrysler with you standing by smiling really big....I'd have a backup OMC motor stuffed in the front of the boat just in case.:D
For 50 bucks I MAY have bought it just to see if they're as bad as I think they are. I did hear from an old mechanic on Caddo lake that some of the chryslers in the 60's or 70's (I can't remember which) were darned good motors. But he also said that he could take a motor apart and tell when someone was using walmart supertech brand oil and that supertech would carbon up the motor horribly and eventually ruin it. I don't use it too much because he put the "black cat" in my head but I suspect he's full of S--upertech. You'll have to give us a report when you run it. Make sure you get at least a couple of miles away from the ramp and don't forget to bring a paddle.;)
Just messin' with ya',

Re: Confession

Yeah, and I'm going to have to figure out what the correct oil mix is. I think I heard that it is:

3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510 X 15.915494309189533576888376337254 : 1

With that mix, however, you gotta use that weird PI oil - you know, the TC-W87.5 stuff!

Re: Confession

My grandfather had a crystler outboard hanging on the wall in his barn. He didn't really pay for anything, traded for everything. Think he gave a few chickens for it. Said it didn't work. Gave my the tool box and walked out. It became the inevitable 10 year old's toaster that never made it back together. If i had known that it was worth 50 bucks now I would have saved it back in 1975. And like my grand father, traded it for something like a tank of gas.

If it runs, great! if not ..... trotline weight!
