motor swap question

i have a 5.0 mercruiser with a cracked block can i use a 305 out of a car or truck or are they diffrent from a marine engine thanks ben

Well, there are a ton of threads here on it - just use search.

Here's the short version: The metal of the block is the same, but you will need to use all the bolt-ons from the marine engine, make sure the camshaft is a truck type or marine type, replace the freeze plugs with brass ones, and replace the gaskets with marine gaskets.

If you just want to replace the cracked part, you can rebuild a truck engine into a marine engine, yes. It's not just a swap though.

I'd jump up to a 350 while you're at it,.....

It's the Same as the 305 on the outside,+ All of your Marine parts will bolt right on........
It's actually a Free Horsepower Up-grade........

thanks for the replys picked me up a 350 out of a truck today gonna get to work switching everything out gonna go ahead and do a thru hull exhaust at the same time
