I upgraded from my 1957 evinrude to a 1996 johnson 9.9 . Got it from my friends dad you just had it serviced, but then it sat in a garage for 3 seasons. It has hardly any hours on it , no even the stickers under the cover on the engine look new.
It ran PERFECT the first few times out, then after I planned a trip and bought a special trout license, I got it in the water and it starts great with the choke out and then dies when I push it in and advance throttle.
I have mixed fresh gas and all that.I have read the other threads that suggest carb issues-My question how much can i do to the carb ? I have all the tools needed and and plenty of automotive experience but not on carbs and not on outboards.
I have also had people tell me the tank vent could be it. how can I check the vent?
I have the exploded view of the carb here

Thanks in advance for any help.
