is this the pee hole ?

Can someone tell me? I put muffs on no water from these ports, am I doing something wrong? 197? Merc 20hp If I need to replace pump on this one is it a pain, or easy?

Those are the idle relief ports. You may not get any water from them unless the lower unit is submerged in the water. If your pump has not been replaced in the last couple of years or you don't know when it was replaced, then it's time. It is pretty simple to replace the pump if you have a manual handy.

Thanks, The previous owner said he replaced it the year before. I put muffs on and didn't get any water from them. This is my second motor I just bought with the same problem, so I hoped I was doing something wrong. The other one is johnson 25, it's a major to replace bacause the power head must come off to access the shift disconnect linkage.

By the way, looks like your motor is around a '72 model. Really sharp. I have a 9.8 '72 I really like that looks just like your 20hp.

You might need to evict a mud dauber with a piece of weed whip string.

Thanks to all of you for your excellent advise. I used the string trimmer line, and a full trash can of water, and EXCELLENT WATER AT LAST !! The advise was so helpfull, and worked well. The marina repair shop should have given me the advise. THANKS SO MUCH !
