Mercury 80 mystery tube in lower leg?

There is what looks like a 1/8 hose coming out of the lower unit right at the lower swivel bracket with a plug in the end. Is this for a water pressure guage or what?

speedo water pressure line. it connects to a tube in the leading edge of the lower unit on one end, and to the speedo at the other.

don't have a speedo but the previous owner had installed a water pressure guage and it was left over from that.
