Hi guys, I just bought a boat with this motor. It hasn't been run in 3 years due to the previous owner's health problems. Is there anything I should check or replace outside or the usual stuff (impeller, lower unit oil, etc...)? I imagine it will need a carb cleaning, and probably some new spark plugs. Just trying to get some tips from folks who know this motor better than I do!

Also, are there any common problems I should look out for?

Thanks a bunch,
Hunter

Yep, all that stuff. I'd do a compression check first before you put a nickel into it. Once you get it running, make sure the thermostats are working ok and that it comes up to normal temps. You need to make sure it's not running either cold or overheating.

I have the same engine, it is very dependable and a work horse, although a little thirsty on the gas if you get into WOT.

the tell tale will need to be routed over the top of the #1 cylinder to prevent any air from entering the system, just get a longer peice of hose and re-route it.

Need to have a good charged battery as the ole v-4 takes some amps to turn over.

you will want to look for corrosion onm the spark plug boots also, sitting that many years may have some rust and cause some problems on spark.

All in All a good engine.
