Hi im new to the forums so plz have some patients. I have a "88" Celebrity 19.5 w/Merc alfaone. Last year I had it out and ran great. Well after 15 mins on water, a clunk and she just gives it up. Starts and runs fine but no thrust. I was so PO'ed after being towed for an hour with a full load, by a skidoo back to the dock, that I have not even looked at it until now. (Yes I winterized it :D) I have the drive unit in the garage and before I get inside I wanted to ask a few questions. My belief is that there was no or little oil in lower end, when it happened. Well I am no stranger to wrenches but was wondering if there are and precautions in opening her up? Maybe what and ballpark price for a self rebuild job could be. Or just any comments or thoughts? (OTHER THAN BUY A CANOE) lol. anyone??? Or can someone point me to an Online Manual for it?? Thanx in advance..

Welcome to iboats......:)
Well the first thing to do is drain the gear lube & observe what it looks like.....
If there is water present, & the lube looks lime colored instead of dark green, you have water intrusion....
Next step, pull the drive & pressure test it & inspect the ujoints, if they are rusty, then odds are your u joint bellows are bad.....
Pressure test the drive & find the leak......
If it sat with water in it all winter the internals are junk, you would do better to just get a new SEI after market for $1200, as the tools & techniques needed will far surpass that threshold either in cost of tools & innards, or cost of innards & shop labor.....
It really is not a DIY.....:(
I'll dig up the free online manual in a sec......:)
