i have just acquired a 1988 proline with a 1988 OMC sea drive setup . it is 115hp. my question is with the speed controls.
The controls are pretty stiff when going from foward to reverse and it is hard for me to determine when i am actually in neutral as i am not really hearing any clicking. Are there any simple adjustments i can make to try to make this a bit better, or do i need new controls? and how hard is that? thank you for your time.. hope this is the correct forum!

Re: Power controls not smooth

probably not a controls issue as much as a cable issue...
I'm not familiar with your specific engine, but if it's like I think it is...

Does the throttle advance work smoothly?
If so, I'd unhook the shift cable from the engine end and then see how smoothly the shifter cycles. If it's still tight then the problem is most likely the cable. If it's loose, the problem is in the linkage or lower unit.
Also, check you lower unit oil!

By the way, if you unhook any cables, mark the positions first! It must go back together in the same position as removed!!!
