Adjustment on the end of tiller 1996 6hp?

Hi there. I am a complete newbie. I just bought an 1996 Evinrude 6hp. This motor runs fantastic so I don't think I need to adjust anything but, I was just wondering what the control on the end of the tiller is for. Is it a lean / rich adjustment or slow trolling speed adjustment? How do I apply it properly?
Also and basic begginers tips you may want to share would be great. Also just wondering if there is any basic condition identifiers I should have looked for before I bought, but could do now anyway. The only thing I knew of was to make sure there is a good stream of water so that the block doesn't overheat and sieze up. I did take if for a quick 5 minute test drive last night (was getting dark) and I was amazed at the smooth, quiet, powerful operation it had. It a certainly miles from my British Seagull :D:D Anyways.. yaadaa yaadaa.. any info you'd care to share for a First-timer would be great.

Well, apparently I asked such a dumb question that nobody wanted to answer a first-timer so, after browsing the net for another hour I was able determine that it is an "Idle Speed" adjustment.

It's not that it's a stupid question: You just don't always get an instant answer here. Someone with knowledge of that outboard has to log on and see your post. It sometimes takes a little while. I just saw your post for the first time, just now.

Yup, and it's really a cool deal for trolling. You can adjust it to get just the speed you want, then let go of the tiller and fish. I have one, too.

The idle mixture adjustment is a spring-loaded screw at the top of the carburetor. But...if your 6hp is running smoothly at a slow idle, just leave it where it is. I can't believe how slowly my 6 will troll. Great little outboards!
