Hi- I have 4 extra tilt rams for my Mercruiser III (BIG unit). These were last sold in 1972. Two of the rams will move, but very sticky and stiff. I can't find any rebuild kits, but it looks like it is mostly O-rings that would need to be replaced. Anyone have info or remember how to do this? Is there a trick for any internal adjustments?

Thanks,

Don

If your testing them off drive they will act sticky and stiff. Work them while attached to drive.

Rebuilding? Nothing special. Might seek assistance of a re builder to match up the seals.

Hard part damage is another thing. But at only $635.00 ea:eek: they can be easily replaced.:D

I am not familiar with the exact trim cylinder but you can take the seals out and go down to the local industrial supply house and maybe they can match them up. Depth of the seal does not have to be exact as they do make plastic shims if needed to fit the seal snug in the groove s on the shaft.

If you can find some new seals remember to place the lip / cup towards the pressure side. Take a look how the originals were inserted

Do a google search on hydraulic lip seals and you can get some info.
