before i go tearin into changing impeller, can you give me a heads up on what to look for, this motor i believe to be electric shift .

I did throw water a couple times ,but now nothing.
A blow up diagram or step by step instructions would be great.

I searched the forum ,but all i could come up with is the seirra # 3084 for my impeller, but could find no instructions or pictures on dissasembling lower unit.

could this be a thermostat problem?
i have no idea where to look for it..
Thanks

Chrysler made two versions of the 35 and unfortunately, I don't know the model numbers. BUT: do the spark plugs stick out straight toward the rear of the engine or are they angled to the port side of the engine?

As far as parts, go to The Chrysler Crew and contact franzmarine.

YEP! That one has the water pump held on with three slotted flat head screws. They are rather tight and, of course, corroded, so they are going to be bears to get out. Chrysler never made an electric shift.

Best tool to use would be an impact screwdriver so you don't munge up the screw slots. Lacking that, a very large flat blade screwdriver with a Vise Grip pliers on the shank for added leverage. And, who knows? You might get lucky and have no fuss at all.

Replacing the impeller is relatively straightforward--the difficult part is usually getting the pump body removed. You must also remove the rear shroud halves and disconnect the shift rods to drop the lower unit. They are connected by a hex coupler threaded opposite on each end, and a jam nut.

While you have the lower unit removed, clean out the cavity where the shift rod goes down into the case. There is no drain there and silt usually collects. Check for freedom of movement of the shift rod.

Since you must disconnect the shift rod to remove the lower unit and since this changes the linkage length, mark or note well the position of the coupler so when you reassemble it, you get close.

To check the thermostat, all you need to do is to look at the clear hose that goes from the block to the head. If the thermostat opens, water will flow through this tube. If it stays closed, just a trickle will flow, and, of course, if the impeller is worn, very little water will flow through it also.

Re: Need Help with impeller 35 HP 354 HC

thermostat is shot, and while removing lower unit i could see problem-the previous owner tried unsuccesfully to bridge the gap between water tube and pump housing outlet.(with some type of rubber gasket material)which did nothing more than plug up line.
the water tube needed to be rotated for alignment, and after a little coaxing
i was able to line up and reassemble.
While i had apart i noticed that previous owner stripped two of the four slot-headed screws that hold cover on impeller housing.
He must have thought ,like me the impeller was the problem.
I decided to reassemble and fire motor up,and to my surprise it spits water .

on another thread i read that running an outboard without thermostat can cause it to overheat...
is this true?? and how can it be possible if coolant can flow unrestricted..

and finally,i want to thank all for the help i have recieved.
what an outstanding website.
