1974 9.8hp merc & 1989

hello i'm looking to buy a 1989 9.8hp merc it need a prop shaft can i use my parts from 74 would it be the same ? & also i was told that 15hp merc and 9.8hp same year as my 1974 are the same except the carb. is this right pls help thanks a lot

Goto the BAM Marine site with the serial numbers of both engines and look up the parts numbers.
