IMO that mfg is a very good boat, I have one similar in the 16' version 1967, the hull design makes it good for rough water, mine has that same "V" with the steep deadrise I think thats what it's called? I've been caught out in Lake Erie's 4 to 5 foot waves and it didn't take on any water just kinda diped down and poped right back up and over the waves, I wouldn't want to try to fish in anything over 3 footers and thats a rough day of fishing. If it's like mine at the transom you'll have a little well where the plug is for a bilge pump to set down in. I've had my MFG for 30yrs and never had any issues with transom rot and the deck is fiberglass, thums up for MFG.
