I want to change the upper shift shaft seal on my MC-1 165 L-6 drive. Can't get the screw out guess it's loctighted and really froze in, stripped head ofcoarse. My question is, are the threads for the screw that holds the lever onto the shaft in the shaft or in the lever? Reason i ask is if i can grind/break the lever off i may be able to save the shaft and just buy the lever. thankyou

Re: upper shift shaft ?

That happens ALL the time. Easiest thing to do is use a hammer and chisel and crack the arm, then install a new arm and screw. Yes, red locktite is used on them.

Yep. And the threads are in the lever, not the shaft.

Re: upper shift shaft ?

mine was anti-social too. i used a nice fresh drill bit to make it cooperate. right down the screw, right after i rounded the drive down to a half cone. center punch it to turn it into a cone for drillin. the threads are only at the top end of the screw. new shift shaft and shift shaft lever required. don't use a glm replacement. they don't fit proper. oem prefered. spend the extra bucks and make life easy...
