Just a couple of questions...

I'm a newbie:rolleyes:, I was given a 1968 Blue Water 16' Inboard 120hp. I LOVE this boat but I am scared to put it in the water.

How do I go about putting it in the water so I know it won't sink once I get it out? It was in the water 2 years ago in California and then it sat in my friends driveway for another 2 years.

It needs the seats replaced and it needs a windshield but other than that it's great. It runs but I need to have the lower unit serviced.

Any advice would be great and I really appreciate it! :D

there is only one way, put it in the waters and check for leaks. go on a weekday, back the trailer in, enough to float the boat, get in and look for water. if it sinks atleast it is on the trailer.

Re: Just a couple of questions...

I am a newbie too, I just recently put a 1978 vintage boat in the water for the first time the other day. I was worried about the same set of things. Basically I make sure I could get the motor running on muffs before leaving home. Made sure the drain plug was in place, and did a visual inspection for things that look like it might leak. I then went to a really really empty boat ramp at a local lake and backed the boat into the water on the trailer. Once the back of the boat just started to float I climbed in and looked around. I noticed some small leaks coming from the transom area, and the bilge collecting water. The bilge pump turned on after a while (20 minutes or so) and emptied the bilge. Basically it didn't sink :), so I then pushed the boat off the trailer started the engine and went for a quick ride.

Everything went well, and I guess I'll be looking at the leaking area in the transom, but good enough for 1+ hour cruises...

Re: Just a couple of questions...

youll be fine.....do as suggested above. (keep it floating above the trailer while you inspect for leaks......)

the old glass boats were really tough........so tough, the land fills wont take them, because they wont break down.

good luck, but just remember....on a sea tryal, boat extra smart, and extra safe

This is all so new.

Is there a recommended place to get a replacement windshield?

Thanks,
