I'm 21 years old and buying my first boat. So far its been quite the experience. I started with my local Bayliner dealer and then turned to Sea Ray. I am finding that buying the Sea Ray is just as much money per month and a far nicer boat. So anyways, I went up to Sea Ray today to talk about used stuff. My dealer showed me a 2005 Sundeck 200 all optioned out. $25,000 and it retails at $50,000.

Anybody here have a Sundeck? Any tips!? :)

Welcome to iboats Right down.

My only tip would be buy used, being your first boat you are going to mess it up, there is alot to learn on tha water and it really isn't anyhitng like driving a car, other than an engine and a steering wheel they have little in common.

See if you can find a safe boating coarse in your area, that will at least get you the basics.

Check graigs list and you local paper, with the eocnomy where it is people are looking to dump boats and you should be able to find a deal, don't be in a hurry to buy, it willl be worth the wait.

my first question is what is the power plant and drive? some of the 200's are known to be under powered. 4.3 miminum, 5.0 better 5.7 best.

Yep, I agree with tash - you need to tell us the power option that one has for anyone to give a decent opinion on value. Which engine? Carb or fuel injected? What drive?

Also, have you driven it and compared the ride to any other similar sized boats? For $25k I'd want to be sure it's the ride I want AND the layout I want. That kind of $$$ gives you a LOT of options in used 20' type family boats! Go back a few more years and you can get darn near any similar boat for that much.

Does that Searay deck boat have a bowrider type hull? Just curious.

Its a 5.0 and I think it was 260 hp. I was told it had a deep V? I think. My dealer said something of it being a better ride than the 175. It is fuel injected as well. I clearly won't purchase anything without first giving it a spin. I've been to local dealers and turned them down because they couldn't get the boat in the water. As far as seating layout it has the wraparound seating in the stern and the huugggee bow. Which is something I am drawn to with this boat.

I did intend on taking a boaters safety course as I feel it would be irresponsible of me to just jump into a boat, not knowing what I was doing.

this is my 23 ft ChrisCraft deckboat, 5.7 Volvo drive. performs very well.
the 5.0 injected will perform very well. find out when the bellows (rubber hoses between the engine and drive, that keeps the water out) were last serviced, along with the outdrive. has this been a salt water boat? stick you head down in the engine bay, and look for rust. $20-25 depending on hours and the overall condition, does not sound out of line. with trailer. be sure the trailer has working brakes.

My only comment is: I wish I'd been able to afford to make payments on a $25k boat at age 21.

Hell, I wish I could afford it now :)

I was quoted at my brand new purchase of the Sea Ray 175 bowrider at 255 a month with a high interest rate because of my age. I told the dealer I'm not going to pay more than 250 for the sundeck. So we'll see here shortly
