OK. Here goes my first post on here. I bought a 1996 Godfey 18' pontoon boat with a 40 HP Yamaha motor. The previous owner had used bottom paint thick on the pontoons and all over the mounting hardware and trim motor and pump. I used a high pressure sprayer to clean the bottom paint off. The trim motor worked prior to this, but the first time out afterwards, as I was trimming the motor down, it sounded like it was not running full speed. Kind of sounded like the battery was dying. After that, the only response I get when trying to raise the motor is a "clicking" sound from the relay.
Question #1 - Does this sound like I damaged the trim motor with water?
Question #2 -Could it be another problem with the trim unit?
Question #3 - Is the trim motor something I can replace myself, and does the engine have to come off the back of the boat to replace the trim motor?
Sorry the question is so "long-winded", but I wanted to try to include all the info. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts...
