Mystery trailer - what load capacity?

Trailer came with a 16ft boat and motor. No ID plate. Year is estimated at 1970 according to previous owner.

It is a tilting trailer, single axle, with 5 leaf leaf springs and 5.7-8 four bolt tires. The tongue is 3" sq tube and the frame is 4" x 1 1/2" formed steel channel.

The boat does not fit well on the trailer. The original rollers are hardened and cracked and not adjusted properly. The boat is actually a little wider than the wheel base (boat sits overtop the tires).

Any guesstimates on load capacity or maybe even the make of trailer?

While the number of leafs is important, 5.70 x 8 tires would be the limiting factor. Check the sidewall of the tire for the load capacity. Multiply by 2 for gross weight. Since the tires are carrying the weight of the trailer as well the boat you need to include the trailer in the total.

Agreed the tire rating is one factor. Currently the tires are rated at 765Ib ea. I could/would upgrade to better tires if I was confident the trailer was capable of handling the load.

I have NO idea how much the boat/motor weighs or what capacity the trailer has.
