What years and or HP models of power trim units will work with a 1970 80HP ?

I've got PTT on my 40 Mariner and now I'm spoiled. If I rebuild the 80hp Merc, I'll be wanting PTT on it as well but don't have the money to buy new. I'm looking for a used unit of some sort.

OK, so type I 80hp and above, is that right? Units from motors under 80hp will not be compatible?

How do I tell the difference between type I and type II ?

I'm no expert, But I believe Type one is a four hose configuration and a type two, is a two hose unit. A four hose unit would be appropriate for your motor. Type one units came with one inch, and three quarter inch diameter cylinder pistons. Either should work fine.

Re: Tilt Trim Compatibility 1970 80hp

OK just picked up a 1970 vintage unit in remarkable shape for a steal.

What is involved in marrying the power trim to the motor? Is it very involved? The motor is currently off the boat on a stand. Is there any hardware I'll need to have ready?

Thanks for your help.
