Hello;

I am a boater from istanbul. I have a new Quicksilver 310 Sport with a 6 hp 4 stroke Mercury.
Launching the boat alone is quite hard job. I am planning to buy the plastic launching wheels from Quicksilver.
Do I need to drill holes on transom for installing these wheels? if so How come water does not leak inboard from these holes? It comes to me as if water ruins these type of junctions slowly even you have bolts, screws etc inside the holes? am I wrong?

Re: Launching wheels

Merhaba!

I was stationed in Samsun back in the late 1960s, with the US Air Force. I enjoyed Turkey very much. Someday, I would like to boat again on the Black Sea.

If your wheels attach with screws and nuts , be sure to use a good marine sealant with the screws. That will keep the water out and prevent corrosion, too. I use stainless steel for all hardware on my boat. The extra cost is cheap insurance.

Merhaba & Thanks;

I will use a good sealant and stainless steel as you adviced. Anyway drilling a new boats transom sounds freaky to me... :eek:

Re: Launching wheels

Hello MEHMET and welcome to iboats.

I too launch alone with a 10ft. cartopper (well not entirerly alone, I always have 100+ non-boating people watching). It is a public parking lot on the river. So I understand. :(

There are methods out there where you dont have to drill holes.

You do have to flip the boat though to use them, and it requires you to first remove the motor.

They are not much help in launching, but it does make the trip from the car to the water easier.

Check the photo attatchment.
