OK....simple thing gone bad. Mine has 3 wires, why? Is it hooked to a module to monitor over trim? If so, will the engine run if the signal fails and reads up when the drive is down?

Here's what happened this weekend. On left turns, the gage went open and the gage went to "up"...straighten the wheel and back to normal. I looked and saw the white wire severed from 8 years of use. I repaired it (just the white wire). Now with me screwing with the brittle sender, it needs replaced. You have to play with the wires to get it to read anything. The rubber connection where it goes together is shot (at the sender). Here's the question...can I replace the sender and get the wires through the hole in the top of the gimple without pulling the outdrive and/or pivot housing??? I have a SELOC manual and if I understand it correctly, I can.... Any input from someone that did it already I'd appreciate. Also, on the Iboats parts site for VP parts, I don't see trim senders. Where are they? What category?
Thanks in advance!

Go to this site and see how much they are. They give the best discounts on Volvo OEM parts. The parts are drop shipped form Volvo to you and they give around 20% to 15% discount over list.

Back when I picked up my Volvo trim sensor from them, it was less than $40.

Tie a string to the end of the old sender wires inside the the engine compartment before you pull them out. Then attach the string to the new sender to install.

The problem is not feeding the wires. Typically it is the grommet as the wires pass through the housing. The grommet is part of the wiring from the sensor and there is a clip that holds it in place.
