Hey guys. First post sorry its so long. For starters I last year I bought an 18" 86' Chris Craft with a 305 merc. It ran great all year with only minor problems that I'll get to in a bit. Long story...less long I must not have winterized it correctly. This spring while getting my prize ready for the water I noticed a long crack in the block. So now it motor swappin time. The donor motor is a post 86' 350 that I have jammed in a Chevy S-10 right now. Its a standard bore block with flat tops and a balanced rotating assembly. The heads are cast world II racing heads 2.02 exh. 1.60 int. with no extra port or machine work done. Intakes just an edelbrock performer. I know what it ran like in the S-10 but boats are another world. Does this sound like a good setup? I need some cam suggestions what do you guys think? Boats for family fun and a fast run once and a while. Will the carb from the 305 merc deliver enough fuel or am I carb shopping too? Ok, on to the outdrive. It has 1.65 gears in it. From what I read this isn't gonna be good with more power. Can I correct the wrong/bad with a different pitch on the prop or not? When i take the outdrive off what should I replace as "maintenance" Last year when shifting it would clunk. not real hard but it was there. If u were slow it word grind. Is it time for a lower cable to or just an adjustment? I have more but I'm sure you're tired of reading. sorry. Thanks for the time and the help. great forum!

Re: This is a long one.

carb shopping, yes. edelbrock marine carb is by far the best bet for the $.

will it work? probably. You're going to need exhaust mods depending on the cam that's in it. read about inversion

what are freeze plugs made of?

also if you frozze the block, I would not take a chance with the exhaust...

All of the info you need is available on here if you search for it.

You could probalby get by with the gear ratio for the time being...

Sorry so short... lots more that could explain, just tired and need to crash.

Cheers!

make sure the flywheel bolt patterns are the same, they started changing around that time. I almost learned the hard way

Re: This is a long one.

I looked at the exhaust manifolds and they don't look cracked externally. Is there a way to check for internal cracks? The motors still in the boat so I could start it and see what happens. I'm guessing a milkshake but if not and the motor doesn't over heat could I assume the manifolds are ok?
