1965 Evinrude sportwin 9.5

I've had the motor for a couple of months and it was running great. Put new gas in the tank and pennzoil oil. It was starting first pull then died. Now it won't start, it has spark, gas is making into the carb. Not sure if I got bad gas or what. Evey repair shop around is saying 2 weeks just to look at it. Any suggestions to help me out?

Start with the kill switch wiring. Trace the two black wires that run out from under the flywheel on the starboard side and disconnect them. See if it will run. You will have to choke it to stop it or disconnect the gas.

From the advice from a friend. I took some gas from the tank and put it in a clear bottle. You would not believe the water at the bottom!!! I had to clean the whole engine out. Sprayed some starting fluid in the choke and it took right off. $19 worth of bad gas from a reputable gas station, plus ruined a whole day of walleye fishing. Thanks for the post!

Starting fluid is bad, bad, bad for 2 strokes, jrowen. Use fuel mix, but never ether.

I had a similar problem on my 69 and what it turned out to be was the cork float got soaked and could no longer float, It would get a little gas, especially when I choked it, but more so it was a no start motor. What happened was, the carb was dry when I got it, after continued use the cork began to soak up gas to the point it was useless. A total carb re-build kit was in order, now she runs like a top.
