Re: bottom paint

Very confusing question ( to me anyhow ). You say you've sanded down the old paint. Was it antifouling paint or something else?
The way I see it you can pretty much do anything you want from there. Repaint, leave it - just depends on how you want it to look.
If it is antifouling then go back with the same. If something else go back with "something else".
And no - as far as a clear coat is concerned it makes no sense to do that. Gel coat is a process that you do not want to get involved with - forget that.
As TheWoodCrafter mentioned - your answer would be helpful to determine what type of bottom paint to reapply - if that is the way you want to go.

Re: bottom paint

yah its trailered..sorry for being so confusing.. im not sure what kind of paint was on there.. most likely the anti fouling.. underneath it looks like its just the original paint job.. the boat wont be in the water for more than a day at a time.. so will it damage the boat to just leave the original paint?

That original paint is most likely gel coat.
If it is in good shape, not pin holes or cracks, go for it.

Re: bottom paint

You can use Scotch Brite pad and car wash soap. When I stripped my transom to repaint the scotch brite pad took the remaining paint off with ease.

You can also use Ready Strip Marine to get the paint off then use scotch brite and soap to remove the residue.
