Re: force(us marine outboard) help

You could pressure (5 psi) test the lower unit in a tub of water and look for the leak.

But if I was going to tear into the gearcase to replace a seal, I would replace them all and know I had a good water tight unit when I got it back together.

Good luck, and welcome to iboats.

Did you put new gaskets under the plugs when you changed the oil? They are crushable, use-once gaskets and must be replaced every time.

Failure to use fresh gaskets is probably the number one cause of water in the gearcase.

you will need to go to a Mercury dealer or a hardware store to get that screw.

Re: force(us marine outboard) help

The propeller shaft bearing cage is still available from Mercury.
Part number 31-817731A5.

Includes cage, 2 seals, and bearing.

The bolts are part number 10-F1263 HEX SOCKET HD CAP SCREW, S.S., 5/16 - 18 X 9/16
Need to order 2 bolts.
