Hello,
I thought I had 2 cylinders coming and going but it is only #3 cylinder spark coming and going. I took #4 plug wire off when running and missing and the engine kills. Just remove #3 wire and runs the same but dont come and go. I held the wire close to the plug and the spark does come and go. All the wiring and grounds have been cleaned and tightened. No improvement. I am getting ready to check the coil with a multimeter. I never did this kind of chek. Anyone have any procedures on how to test a coil with a multimeter? Thanks!

Swap the coil on the missing cylinder with a known firing coil from another cylinder, if the cylinder now fires and the known firing cylinder doesn't the coil is bad.

Thanks,
I will try that. I did do a resistance test from the input wire on the back of the coil to the ground and it showed zero. My book said it should be .2 to .7 ohms. I checked from the plug wire to ground and it showed 158 ohms and the acceptible range is 120-160. Not sure if coil is bad by this check so I will try your idea. Thanks again!

I just swapped the coils and no luck. The same cylinder #3's spark is coming and going still. I read somwhere about a diode in the CDI box can cause this. The stater and trigger are brand new so I don't think they are the problem. Is there a test for the CDI box that can be done with a multimeter? If so, how? Thanks.

First check the wiring coming from the module make sure your ground is tight and check the crimps at the wire ends and make sure none of the wires are broken or loose.
Swap sparkplugs around like you did the coil and see if the miss moves.
