Rocco Mediate: Heck of a performance

He is ranked about 154 among professional tour golfers, yet it took Tiger Woods 91 holes to defeat him by one stroke for the U.S. Open Championship.

We expect great golf from Tiger, but Rocco defeated 153 pros ranked higher to take Tiger into an 18 hole playoff, then to one hole of sudden death. The final outcome came down to one putt that Rocco missed.

That one putt shouldn't cause us to overlook one of the greatest underdog performances I have ever seen. . .in any sport.

I was disappointed that Rocco didn't pull it off. He had a real good thing going on there toward the end. I believe that if he had pulled it off in the 18 holes he would have won. Much more pressure under sudden death in my opinion.:D

By the little bit that I saw,Rocco was having the time of his life.He was so far beyond his wildest dreams that any outcome is a great win for him.

Rocco's underdog performance may be tainted by the fact that Tiger is still hurting from surgery and hadn't played any golf in quite awhile........that in and of itself could be considered an underdog performance.

Yes, Tiger's performance was very impressive, given his recent surgery and incomplete convalescence. He is worthy of his ranking as the best in the world. He beat pain and lack of recent practice to finally prevail. He seemed to intersperse magical "Tiger" shots and putts with the sort of shots you or I would not be proud of.

I was thinking mainly of the 152 guys ranked higher than Rocco who fell by the wayside.

I have nothing against Tiger, he is absolutely amazing, but I must admit I was pulling for Rocco today (took my TV to work!:D).
He never lost his nerve and really gave Tiger all he could handle.
He was gracious in loosing (as Tiger was in winning).
What did him in was his tee shot on 19.
He is now ranked 47th. Hope he gets some endorsements out of this.

That was some of the most nail biting gold i have ever witnessed. watching Tiger pull off what he did was incredible.....watching Rocco was just as incredbile...that is he kept his focus and went straight ahead......I couldnt even imagine the pressure he under....

Some of tiger's shot's ...bah it was a fantastic event..

That was truly amazing........................But at what cost to Tiger?? I herd today he re-injured he knee.............and in fact his Doctor advised him to drop out of The Open before Sundays round. I can't imagine that kind of drive.. And to risk further injury............:confused:

Yes, Tiger's season is over. Has to undergo reconstructive surgery. Have no idea what the effect playing had on aggravating/reinjuring the knee, but you have to admire the man's determination and drive for playing thru pain.

I was rooting for Rocco as well, and those were two gutty performances. Rocco for playing well under enormous pressure, and Tiger playing well despite the obvious pain.

What PW2 said. Unbelievably gutty performances on both counts! I find golf boring to watch, but those rounds held my interest. I feel bad for Tiger and hope his knee will not end his career.

Torn ACL, and some other lesses issues. Tigers done for the season..........at least. If the surgery goes well his knee should be as good as or better than new. My wife had ACL reconstruction surgery back in her Collage days. Now thats her good knee.....:confused::)
Must have been some killer meds to ease that pain, and not mess up his head.

I don't think Rocco felt the pressure. I think he knew he was in never-Rocco land and just relaxed and enjoyed it. He looked to me like he was having a good time.
