Break in oil? Such a thing?

Is there such a thing as break in oil? I was reading the OMC Engine Service Manual for a 1993 OMC Cobra 5.0 L EFI/MPI going over the break in procedures and they mentioned not changing the factory break in oil until after the 20 hour break in is completed... Should a rebuilt engine start with a certain oil to help the rings seat and bearing break in?

there is an engine oil supplement (EOS) that the GM dealership sells that has a high zinc concentration that is used for fresh rebuilds on auto engines.

I was told by my engine builder to break in on rotella T (diesel oil) due to better anti scuff properties than standard oils (needed for internal grey and cast iron wear point break in,etc...) and better soot and particulate handling capacity over regular oils. and definately don't run anything synthetic until the rings are fully seated / worn in... 20 hours is real safe there... Just my recent experience...

That's exactly what our 385 stroker project is filled with and ready to fire.
When broke in we will switch to Rotella Synthetic.

Hope you'll be pleased with yours. I'm still getting jets and set-up dialed in... and it rocks big time... gobs of power across the rpm range and just keeps pulling harder as the tach rolls up...

All we are waiting for is Eddie Marine to ship the thermostat housing for the crossover...no circ pump on this build, otherwise we are good to go.
