I have a 1997 Johnson 115spl that has a recifier charging system. Has anyone replaced the rectifier with the regulator that comes with the 9amp system? All of the wiring appears to be the same, the only thing I am curious about is that there is two diffrent stators a 6 amp and a 9amp, would I have to change the stator also or will the regulator still work with the 6 amp stator. Any thoughts?

If you went to the regulator, you would still have a 6 amp system, but the regulator is much more exspensive.

I know it would still be a 6 amp system unless I replace the stator, but the regulator would provide a more stable output.

Why would it do that, and what draw do you have on the system? You are talking about a very low amp system here, don't try to keep up with a trolling motor.
