I am trying to change the seals in my gearcase, and was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to remove the screws from the skeg? I have tried everything short of drilling and retaping. I would like to change the seals without having to do that. Could i just replace the seals at the prop and impeller and be alright as long as the spaghetti gasket does not leak?

You can by what is called a hammer impact wrench, or driver, Sear's should have one. This is a commonly used tool for this job.

If you have a blow-torch handy you can try heating them up in order to loosen them. Just be careful you don't get the flame too near anything that can be harmed by it.

An impact screwdriver is a necessary tool for anybody that is going to work on an outboard. It is a steel-bodied screwdriver that has a cam inside that rotates the bit when you swat it on the end with a hammer. It will take those screws out in an instant. You should also use the same tool (it's reversable) to put the screws back in as tight as they are supposed to be, or it may leak around the screw heads.
