I own a 1990 Sea Ray 250DA with a 7.4 Bravo with 402 hours. I have owned the boat for four years. I had the boat out yesterday for over an hour, the boat ran flawlessly at idle, cruising and at full throttle. The water temp always stayed around 155-165. After I trailered the boat back to my house, I hooked it up to the hose and muffs to flush it out as I boat off of Long island in salt water. The engine started up but would noot pull any water up through the outdrive, the temp went up over 200 and the alarm went off. I looked before shutting it down and saw that the water pump was spinning. I tried again this morning with the same results, water pump spinning but wouldn't draw any water in. Anybody idea why this would happen after running perfectly all day in the water and where to start on replacing parts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like you need a new impeller. Probably not enough suction because the vanes are all bent over and not returing to straight. How old is your impeller??

I've owned the boat for over four years and never changed it. Would it still run fine in the water but not enough suction with a hose? Thank you for your advice, I'll start with the impeller.

I have a repair manual, is changing the impeller a major job? I'm not a proffesional but I do my tune ups, change my ignition module, fuel pump etc. IS it a semi simple joB? Thanks

Ayuh,.....

I would recommend that you consult your Manual, but I think your Impeller Pump is probably mounted down Low on the starboard leading corner of your Motor.....
I'd pull the Whole Pump,+ do the Impeller Change on the Bench....

On a scale of 1 to 10,... I'd give it a 2,... If the boat allows Fair Access....

I agree with Bond-o pull the whole pump.

Note orrentation of the 2 hoses and make idex marks on braket and housings before you disassemble.
