I have a seahorse 6R74C in very nice condition that I picked up from a now non-boater. I need a longshaft for my sailboat but this motor is the short shaft version.
Is there a kit made for this year and model?
Anyone have a kit number?
thanks a lot.

Re: '74 6hp convert to longshaft

You can make that conversion. However, the cost will be prohibitive, even with used parts. You can contact:

www.tcoutboard.com

They have used parts, and will be happy to sell you what you need to make the conversion. You may be shocked at the price, though, even used.

You might do better, though, by advertising on a site like Craigs List in your area to do a swap for the long shaft version. There seem to be alot of them for sale in my area, and I'm sure there are people with a long shaft who are looking for a short shaft.

Those 70s 6hps are common as dirt in most areas, so finding what you want may not be a problem. You could also buy a longshaft version with a blown powerhead for not much money. It will have all the parts you'll need on it.
