1984 85 hp slipping out of gear at WOT

My 85 hp force seems like it is slipping out of gear at WOT at cruising speed. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Some people do, just give them a little time.

Does it clunk when it is slipping out of gear?

You can also try searching clunk, gear slip, jump gear, etc... Make sure you are searching under the force forum only.

yeah it does clunk.. the motor doesn't lose power or anything it just slips out and then right back in.

Here is a thread I posted about the same problem and same year motor. I'm just running it but keeping my rpms below 5000 and I don't have problems.

I just had the boat out tonight and it seems like it just might be a linkage adjustment because it slips in and out of reverse at lower rpms... and out of gear at really low rpms and wide open throttle when already up on plane....

could be a worn out clutch dog. if the adjustment doesn't help, you might have to tear into your lower unit.
