94 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner Problems

i took my boat out saturday to go fishing..driving out to the bays it ran great...on my way back to the boat raps the motor die on me fast...at first i had a hard time starting it..but when it started alot of white smoke came out like it was flooded..the motor would only run for about 20 seconds then die...it would start right back up and then die after about 20 seconds...i did notice the motors kinda ran weird driving to the bays..but i didn't think nothing of it...i got it to the boat raps and took it home and looked at the motor...and the fuel filter...i called the guy i bought the boat from and he said the motor sat for 5 months and he never changed the water sep..and filter...so i took it off and lone be hold there was a rusty looken powder on the bottom of the bowl...i got a new filter and all...for the boat...the motor starts alot smoother but still die...i think the flots in the carbs are sticking...the carbs are running out of gas and thats whats making the motor die and flood....does anyone think other wise?

That does sound like a likely scenario.

Do you re prime the fuel bulb in between starts when it dies? Fuel pump my also need attention. Will priming the fuel primer bulb keep it running? If so, the pump needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Will spraying pre mixed fuel into the carb throats pick it up? What about choking it? If so, the carbs likely need a bath and rebuild. Not a bad idea anyways since the boat is new to you.

After it is clean, running a fuel additive like Seafoam helps keep it that way.

i didn't prime the bulb cause it would start up after it dies....but sometimes it acts like it floods...cause i have a hard time starting it and when it starts alot of white smoke barrels out of the prop....
